Hey! How about trying out a new and creative birthday party idea? Beading is all the rage these days and what better way to partake in it than with all your friends!

Beading has been around since the dawn of humankind. It began as a simple desire to string a thin leaf or vine through a rock, shell, or seed and place it around the neck or wrist of the maker or recipient. It mattered little whether the object served as a mere personal ornament or had a more powerful mystical or religious meaning. From these early beginnings, beading has become common to just about every culture of the past and present. For many people, beading becomes a way of life. There is immense joy and satisfaction in collecting beads and creating with beads.

Every child has an artistic side to them and given the right opportunity, environment, and nurturing it is amazing to see how much that artistic element can flourish. Kids are so great with creative projects because they haven’t developed inhibitions and are willing to try new and different things. Beading & jewelry making is a perfect fun and functional outlet for their imagination and creativity.

At birthday parties, jewelry making can be great for “party favors” for young artists to make and take home to show off to their families and friends. There is very little mess and all you need is your jewelry supplies, a table and some chairs. And this is one party activitiy that parents can join in and enjoy as well. Creativity breeds more creativity and you can’t go wrong with that!

There are so many things to chose from when it comes to jewelry making. There are beads, charms, shells, baubles, and more so that each child can create their own special, one-of-a-kind jewelry in which to take pride. The use of found objects can add a funky touch to the jewelry making projects. Examples of this type would be an old belt buckle, parts of an antique chandelier, antique or costume jewelry that our grandmothers once wore, chains, an old watch, shells, coins, buttons, and more. The list is as long as your imagination!

Beading is not the only option for making creative and one-of-a-kind
jewelry. Using many of the previously mentioned materials, you can also craft brooches to your own personal tastes and desires. Designing and putting together brooches is akin to sculpture and collage. Using puzzle pieces adds another quirky dimension. Or going a step further, you can supply guests with old or inexpensive lampshades and let them create their own designer statement with fabric, fringe, found objects, and even beads, transforming the mundane into something quite spectacular. As you can see, the possibilities are endless!

If you don’t see yourself as the artistic type or you would like some inspiration from an expert, you can contact Ear Things by Laura.
