The Minnesota Police Pipe Band offers piping and drumming instruction of the highest quality in the Twin Cities area. In order to introduce a broad range of people to instruments boasting a rich cultural heritage, the lessons are free. A law enforcement affiliation is not required. Instruction is provided for the bass, snare and tenor drums and for the Great Highland bagpipe, plus Drum Major.The band meets on Tuesday evenings in South Minneapolis. Lessons are scheduled from 6-6:45 p.m. Beginning classes are scheduled quarterly (next session begins Sept. 16, 2008) and continue through a two-year instruction.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) helps people age 55 and older put their skills and life experience to work in their communities. Volunteers serve in organizations that range from hospitals and youth recreational centers to local police stations and education facilities. Using their personal interests and skills, RSVP volunteers may continue the type of work they enjoyed earlier in life, or opt to try something new.

SeniorNet Learning Centers offer low-cost computer classes specifically designed for adults 50 and older. The basic curriculum is comprised of courses on introduction to computers, word processing, spreadsheets and going online and using the Internet. More advanced courses offered by the Learning Centers include topics such as genealogy, graphics, personal financial management and tax preparation with a computer. Lab time is available for practice. Parking is available at MCTC parking ramp.

Ice dance, a branch of figure skating, is fun, challenging, and accessible to everyone. It's a great way to keep fit and meet people. Skaters range in age from young adults to seniors and the club’s main focus is the encouragement of beginning ice dancers of ALL ages. It is truly a sport for life. The Starlight Ice Dance Club was formed in 1995 to promote ice dancing as a recreational and athletic activity for adults in the Twin Cities. Come to one of our sessions and try ice dancing. You don't have to bring a partner, and your first time is FREE.

Founded in 1950 as a downhill ski club, ULLR, with approximately 350 members, now offers a variety of activities for singles and couples ages 50+. Events include western ski trips, cross-country and downhill ski weekends and day trips, social events, golf outings, day and weekend bike trips, and many activities especially for the singles.
